Zona’s Busted
Has the Denver Police Department lost its mind? Zona’s, exactly at the intersection of the streets that define the Five Points neighborhood, is an institution not to be trifled with. I speak with some authority as I owned property and lived a mere 2 blocks away from Zona’s for 22 years.
And hauling away Zona Moore, aged 84, in an ambulance, for selling cigarettes from an open pack? When was this crazy law against poor people passed? Cigarettes have always been sold individually in every poor neighborhood I’ve ever lived in. And a three-day eviction notice? If they are shutting it down as a public nuisance, it may take longer. It took us three years to get one shut down at 26th and California.
This from the email stream:
Just a heads up that Zona’s was shut down by DPD District 6 today around 4pm. Lt. Cmdr Davis gave me a heads up that they’d been engaged in an undercover operation that culminated in today’s arrest of Zona and several of her staff. The arrests were based on purchases by undercover police of drugs, illegal individual cigarettes, and stolen audio equipment.
Lt. Cmndr Davis said the property was targeted as a nuisance and would not likely be reopening…she will continue to keep me informed.

Here's the missing detail :
Zona and 5 employees sold drugs to the police.
The single cigarette detail is being used to distract people from the truth.
People who sell drugs deserve to go to jail and have their "business" closed.

Maybe this can be an opportunity for another small, African-American business to operate out of her place IF losing A.A. businesses on the Points is the REAL ISSUE. As black people though, we always lose sight of what the REAL ISSUE is and miss opportunities to make a real IMPACT! What EXACTLY do you want us to rally around???
1.) Losing another African-American business on the Points?(Okay, let's talk about the possibility of someone else getting in there quickly with her blessing)
2.) Illegal activities? (For real? you want the black community to rally around and fight for illegal activity?). . . FOR REAL??? Wow! That's NOT ACCEPTABLE. An African-American business open (no matter how bad for the neighborhood) for the sakes of an African-American business open IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. And it shouldn't be RALLIED as so.
If the ISSUE IS losing African-American businesses on the POINTS then MAKE IT CLEAR that's what we're rallying for! That way the city knows we're not happy with THAT. But OUR SCREAMS at a rally becomes a WHISPER to the city when you ask us to rally for illegal activity! It's ridiculous. That's how we've lost the importance of OUR VOICE! Stop the madness!

The crack epidemic never actually went away, it just went low key. It is being sold everywhere in this city and in this country. The WOD was a farce anyway, Google CIA and Drugs and open your eyes. They bring it in.
It was revealed in the Iran/Contra hearings that the CIA "tolerated" drug smuggling. That's Congressional Records. And since then there have been countless airplanes registered to the CIA, full of drugs that have crashed.
My God, just last month Banking giant Wachovia Corp. agreed to pay $160 million to settle a federal investigation into laundering of drug money.
The irony is that Zona and her clan will get more jail time than the banksters who are not only robbing our treasury but are the ones who are importing the very drugs Zona people "might" have sold.

Fascists who argue that "people who sell drugs deserve to go to jail" might want to stop and contemplate for a moment what the wonderful "War On Drugs" has accomplished.
Prohibition = FAIL.
Stop ruining black communities with busy-body nanny government.
This case is about a landlord that wants to break this woman's lease.
