Colorado nightclub shooting: Police identify victims, praise "hero" bystanders who intervened | FULL
Representatives of the Colorado Springs police department, along with other representatives from the city government and law enforcement, spoke to the pubic on Monday following the deadly mass shooting at an LGBTQ+ nightclub over the weekend.
Police Chief Adrian Vasquez identified the victims of the shooting during a press conference Monday, naming each one and identifying each one by their preferred pronouns before leading everyone in attendance in a moment of silence.
Police also identified the two bystanders who intervened to subdue to shooting suspect and bring the rampage to a halt, praising them as “heroes” who kept a tragic situation from becoming even worse.
Police identified the two who intervened to stop the shooting as Thomas James and Richard Fierro.
Colorado Springs Mayor John Suthers also spoke to the bravery of the two individuals during the press conference, saying there’s no doubt in his mind their intervention saved lives.
A 22-year-old gunman opened fire inside a Colorado Springs nightclub, killing five people and leaving 25 injured before he was subdued by “heroic” patrons and arrested by police who arrived within minutes, authorities said Sunday.
Two firearms, including a “long rifle,” were found at Club Q after the Saturday night shooting, said Police Chief Adrian Vasquez.
