Preview Colorado Environmental Film Festival

On January 20th, 2012, The Mercury Cafe will host an event to promote the 6th annual festival, including film previews and a music performance by Gabrielle Louise, emceed by Jonny 5 of The Flobots.
The 6th annual Film Festival will be held in Golden, CO on February 23-25, 2012.
CEFF organizes an annual film festival, screening world-class environmental films, and featuring representatives from local and national organizations and companies through topical forums and discussions.

Throughout the year, CEFF sponsors fundraising events for the festival as well as other community activities that will provide forums for individuals to interact with local businesses and artists and find educational resources and accessible solutions for environmental issues.

The Mercury Café, located at 22nd and California Street in Denver, CO, serves as the perfect eco-friendly venue, with its alternative power and its rich menu of organic fair. They have been serving local and organic produce for years, including the beer, which is locally brewed at Asher Brewery.

They use 100% Excel Wind Energy and their own rooftop wind turbines generate 800 watts independently of Excel. 36 solar voltaic panels contribute another 6300 watts. Since moving into the building, the café has planted 43 trees, built living walls of vines to help with cooling, designed other passive cooling systems, and implemented LED and other eco-friendly lighting solutions.

Gabrielle Louise is a Colorado singer songwriter deeply rooted in Folk who performs an eclectic selection of songs in many different musical styles. Whether she’s serenading or belting out a tango, she relies on her vocal prowess as well as her capacity for entertaining.

Her lyrical songs and storytelling have garnered much praise from the musical community: she’s a two-time John Lennon Songwriting Contest finalist and winner of the Jack Maher Songwriting Award.
Gabrielle Louise will also be submitting a film to this year’s film festival.
Jonny 5 is founding member of Flobots. a Denver-based band whose Top 40 single “Handlebars” led to a major label record contract, multiple tours of the US and Europe, and appearances on late night television (The Tonight Show, Conan O’Brien, Carson Daly).
Founded on a belief in music as a medium for social change, Flobots is committed to using its exposure as a platform from which to advocate for peace, justice, and sustainability.
The show starts at 6 p.m. and runs until 10 p.m., for a ticket price of $15 which includes free desert.
There will be opportunities for speakers, and CEFF will show clips of some of the films screening at this year’s festival.
CEFF will take the opportunity to recognize sponsors and partners at this event, such as Natural Awakenings, a local healthy living magazine.
